Coronary Artery Disease
Coronary artery disease is the most common heart disease and it is the number one cause of death for both men and women in the United States.
As plaque builds in the arteries, it narrows the coronary artery and makes it harder for blood to flow through to the heart, causing chest pain, shortness of breath and fatigue. This hardening of the arteries is called atherosclerosis, or arteriosclerosis, and is the main cause of coronary artery disease.
Left untreated, progressive coronary artery disease can lead to a myocardial infarction, which is also called a heart attack, or to sudden cardiac arrest. |
